BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETINGS CALENDAR

2011-2012

The July Board of Directors meeting was very special because of the acknowledgment of few individuals who helped CBE meet its mission over the past few years.

First, the new Board was installed for FY 2011/2012 which is so important because of the direction and support the board provides the agency.  The Executive Committee is Marty Guerra, President, Gary Raso, Vice President, Beth Thatcher, Secretary, Cindy Mihelich, Treasurer, & Brenda Blickenstaff, Past President.  As you may all know, the Board of Directors is a volunteer board and deserves to be acknowledged for the work they do on behalf of persons with developmental disabilities and the employees of CBE.

Second, CBE recognized some special individuals and organizations because of the work they have done to assist families and persons with developmental disabilities.  The awards that were presented were:

The Professional Of The Year Award

Chris Collins
Executive Director, Alliance Colorado

·       Mike noted that he served as Alliance board president this past year and has been able to meet many wonderful people in this arena. Alliance helps to lobby JBC members and other legislators to ensure that they all are aware of consumers and their needs. The Alliance office is right across from the capital and gives them the proximity that we need to be there on a daily basis.

·       Mike called Chris up and noted that Chris is always in the middle of the lobbying efforts and because of all her leadership and efforts this past session we would like to recognize her at this event. There were new JBC members that she needed to educate and spent many days writing documents on the fly and making sure all the correct information got to where it needed to be.

·       Chris noted that she is honored to accept this on behalf of the members of Alliance. She noted that it takes all of them to be able to accomplish all that they do. Chris wanted to also thank Mike for this past year and noted how much Alliance needed him this year. We at Alliance know how important he is locally in all that he does and now he has received that recognition at the state level.

Professional of the Year
 Art Hogling Ph.D.

·       Mike called Art up and noted that he was instrumental in the lobbying efforts this year, has been Alliance past president and serves in many other aspects of Alliance.  Art assisted Chris in writing and changing documents, lobbying JBC members, and worked many weekends to make it all happen. Because of Art’s efforts a total of $18 million dollars was added to the state DD budget. He has been a great mentor to Mike and his knowledge on lobbying is extensive.

·       Art noted that lobbyists aren’t generally known as the good guys, but we are. It is easy to lobby for the persons we serve.  Art stated that Mike is well known and liked; has a great reputation and is very highly known at the state level, this made Art’s job much easier.

Donor Of The Year Award

Knights of Columbus
Councils 12020
557
12243

·       Kristie noted that the Knights of Columbus spend hours each year fundraising for families in Early Intervention. Their funds are used to assist families with intense medical needs, equipment, medical travel and many other needed items. The families are very grateful and put this money to good use.

·       All councils were honored to receive this award and are pleased to be able to do this for our families.  They noted that they will continue to keep this tradition and work even harder this next year.

Community Provider of the Year
 George Chintala

·       Louida called George up and noted that with the budget changes we have had puts a strain on our individuals and some of the services that they receive. Thanks to George we have been able to keep the same rates for transportation. This has enabled individuals to be able to get back and forth to their jobs, day programs, and other desired locations.

·       George noted that it is an honor to be able to help our individuals and that it takes a whole team to be able to serve all the people that they do. It takes the city and state to be able to match the funds in order to meet their mission.

Community Provider of the Year
 Safeway

·       Yvette called up the representatives from Safeway. This company not only makes monetary donations but they also provide employment opportunities, their time and gifts used for BASS events. They have provided everything from hot dog buns to large gifts. The time and effort that they put into assisting CBE is wonderful.

·       Donna and Shirley noted that they have enjoyed all the time that they are able to put assist CBE.  They truly enjoy having individuals in their stores and like how they call out to them in the parking lot saying “Hello”. They are honored to have such a great relationship with the persons we serve the CBE’s administration.

·       Mike noted that they have truly been a great donator of time, gifts, and monetary donations. He also noted that we could not do what we do without any of the individuals that we are honoring today. It takes everyone to make this system work and we are lucky to have such great community supporters to help us in our journey.
